Cost Effectiveness and Decision Analysis Training
We offered a 4-day course on cost-effectiveness and decision modeling using Excel and TreeAge (statistical software for decision analysis) from October 1 to 4, 2018 at the University of California, Merced. Co-instructors Professor Jorge Diaz, Alex Moreno, Carolina Sarmiento, and Dr. Jorge Medina (National University of Colombia) covered the principles of cost-effectiveness analysis and decision analytic modeling and guide participants in implementing decision trees, Markov models, and microsimulation models using Excel and TreeAge. The workshop will also covered more advanced topics, such as probabilistic sensitivity analysis and model calibration.

Cost Analysis and Return on Investment of Healthcare Interventions Workshop
Being able to quantify the cost and benefits from health care interventions is critically important for making decisions in today’s healthcare environment. In order to help healthcare providers, Public Health Departments, and researchers understand how to measure and incorporate costs and health outcomes into their decision making, Paul Brown (Professor of Health Economics and Public Health) and Van Do-Reynoso (Director of Public Health, Santa Barbara County) offered a two-day workshop on September 24th and 25th, 2018:
- Day 1: Cost Analysis and Budget Impact Analysis in Healthcare
- Day 2: Return on Investment and Cost Effectiveness Analysis in Healthcare Decision Making The workshop covered:
- Approaches and techniques for conducting a cost of illness or budget impact analysis
- Approaches and techniques for quantifying outcomes from healthcare interventions
- How to combine this information into healthcare decision making using Return on Investment or Cost Effectiveness analysis

Cost Effectiveness, Return on Investment, and Social Return on Investment for Assessing Healthcare Interventions and Services
This one-day workshop for health researchers at the Auckland University of Technology provided an overview and examples of ROI, the complexities of conducting a Social ROI, and the situations where it is more appropriate to conduct a cost effectiveness study. The workshop involves graduate students from UC Merced assisting the researchers in designing projects.
